Literacy Corner Tips for Parents and Students

Parents/Guardians,

At Sullivan Elementary, the teachers commit to high achieving learning goals in order to ensure our students are prepared for college, careers and community involvement. Sullivan School’s Success Plan states that students will be reading at their respectable grade level by the end of the school year.  Another part of our school's success plan states that students will be engaged in daily writing activities to improve their writing skills.  In order to meet our school’s learning goals, your child is learning about the different parts of literacy (reading, writing and studying about words) daily. Your child is learning how to read different genres of books and how to understand what is being read.  In writing, your child is learning how to write different types of genres and learning how to take a piece of writing through a process that enables others to read it.  Working with words daily and studying similarities and differences among words helps in the above reading and writing activities. Each month, you will be provided with ideas that can be done at home in order to help your child continue to grow in his/her literacy skills.

If you have any questions,  you may contact Jessica Vandenheuvel (Literacy Coach) at [email protected] or 391-2470.

Padres / Tutores,
